The Sigma LW-20 HF wire antenna is a versatile solution for radio amateurs operating on all HF bands from 80m to 6m with an external antenna tuner. The heart of this antenna is the 9:1 UNUN, which converts the impedance from approximately 450 Ohms to the 50 Ohms expected by your transceiver. This ensures efficient signal transmission and reduces static noise.
Features and installation
- Easy Installation: The UNUN is equipped with a SO-239 connector for the coaxial feed line and two screw terminals with wing nuts. One terminal is for the antenna wire and the other for a ground wire. Although grounding is not strictly necessary, it helps to reduce static build-up and lightning strikes.
- Flexible Mounting: Mount the feed point as high as possible, such as on a pole or wall, and mount the other end of the wire as far away as possible. The wire can be mounted in a straight line or in different shapes to fit the available space.
Comments
- Power Rating: For intermittent amateur use only (400W CW or 500W SSB). For continuous data modes a maximum power of 200W is recommended. For AM transmission use a more powerful balun is required.
- External ATU: When using a high power amplifier, an external antenna tuner between the antenna and the amplifier is essential to prevent damage.
The Sigma LW-20 provides a reliable and efficient solution for HF communications over a wide frequency range, with easy installation and robust performance
