The BHI ParaPro EQ20-DSP is a 20W audio enhancement system that combines audio amplification, parametric equalization, and advanced DSP noise cancellation. The system is designed to make speech and other audio signals clearer and more intelligible, and is particularly suitable for amateur radio operators, shortwave listeners, commercial radio stations, and users with hearing loss.
You simply place the EQ20-DSP between your radio, receiver, or other audio source and one or two passive loudspeakers. You can then adjust both the frequency response and the amount of noise reduction. This allows you to precisely tune the sound to the application and your personal hearing.
More intelligible audio with BHI noise cancelling
With weak radio signals, background noise can make it quite difficult to understand speech clearly. The built-in BHI DSP noise cancelling is designed to reduce this disturbing background noise while preserving speech.
The knob on the front allows you to set the desired filter level, from disabled DSP to a maximum of 40 dB noise cancellation. This allows you to determine how much noise reduction works comfortably for the received signal.
The EQ20-DSP also features a powerful Class-D amplifier with 2 x 10 watts. With a latency of only 38 ms, the audio signal is quickly processed and reproduced via two separate loudspeaker channels.
Parametric equalizer for precise audio adjustment
A key difference from traditional tone control or fixed EQ presets is the built-in parametric equalizer. This allows you not only to determine how much you amplify or attenuate a frequency, but also which frequency you want to adjust.
For Bass, the center frequency is adjustable from 100 Hz to 1 kHz and for Treble from 1 kHz to 10 kHz. Both bands can be adjusted by a maximum of ±10 dB.
This gives you significantly more control over the sound. For example, do you have difficulty hearing certain speech frequencies? Then you can specifically search for a setting where voices stand out more clearly for you. According to BHI, this capability makes the EQ20-DSP particularly interesting for people with hearing loss.
What is the ParaPro EQ20-DSP used for?
The EQ20-DSP can be used for amateur radio, shortwave reception, commercial radio base stations, and general audio applications, among others. Thanks to its mono and stereo connection options, you can connect various audio sources.
You can connect one or two mono signals to the CH1 and CH2 inputs or use one stereo signal. For example, an amateur transceiver, SDR radio, shortwave receiver, or audio player.
One or two passive loudspeakers can be connected to the output. The amplifier supports both 4 and 8-ohm loudspeakers. The Source Select knob on the front then allows you to select the desired audio source.
