What is a ground plane?

A ground plane serves as an artificial ground plane for HF antennas, allowing them to operate effectively without the need for an extensive grounding installation. This is especially useful in mobile or temporary setups on, for example, a balcony, where a fixed installation is not possible.

Installation of a magnetic ground plane

1. Surface Preparation: Clean the metal surface of the body by removing dust and dirt.
2. Placement: Choose a flat or as flat surface as possible for the placement of the ground plane. A slightly curved surface is also suitable.
3. Connection: insert the ring on the cable between the connectors of the base and the antenna.
4. Optimization: For the 50MHz band, you can get a better SWR with a cable length of less than 20cm. Make sure the terminals are properly sealed with heat shrink tubing when shortening the cable.
