Basic scanner antennas

Want to get the most out of your scanner? Then a high-quality basic scanner antenna is essential. Indoor signal reception is often limited by walls, insulation, concrete structures, and metal structures. This can lead to noise, signal drops, or limited range.

With an external base scanner antenna mounted outdoors—on a mast, roof, or facade—you can significantly improve reception. You increase your range, reduce interference, and receive a much wider spectrum of frequencies.

✔ Significantly improves signal reception ✔ Greater range than standard indoor antennas ✔ Less interference due to outdoor placement ✔ Suitable for VHF, UHF and wideband scanners ✔ Durable and weatherproof for long-term use

Basic scanner antennas

Why choose a base scanner antenna?

A base scanner antenna is designed to pick up radio waves more efficiently than compact indoor antennas. By placing it outdoors, you bypass obstacles and interference sources that cause signal loss indoors.

  • Good reception: By placing the antenna outdoors, you reduce blockages caused by concrete, steel structures, and insulation material. This directly results in a cleaner signal and clearer audio on your base scanner.
  • Wide range: A base scanner antenna can receive signals from a greater distance and across a wide frequency range, for example, from 25MHz to 3000MHz. This allows you to monitor multiple frequencies, such as amateur radio, emergency services, aviation (Airband), marine, VHF, UHF, or other public communication frequencies. Exception: C2000/P2000 is encrypted and cannot be received.
  • Reliability: Base antennas are designed for permanent installation. They are resistant to wind, rain, and temperature fluctuations, offering stable long-term performance.

Collection of base scanner antennas

Within our collection of base scanner antennas, you will find only high-quality models from reputable brands. Whether you are looking for a broadband discone or a specific VHF/UHF solution, we offer antennas that deliver performance.

We exclusively supply original products from brands such as;

  • AOR
  • Comet
  • Diamond
  • HamKing
  • Komunica
  • Moonraker
  • Sigma Euro-Comm
  • Sirio
  • Uniden
  • Whistler

These brands are known for their durability, technical precision, and excellent reception performance.

Types of base scanner antennas

Depending on your listening purpose, you choose the right type of scanner antenna:

  • Discone antennas: Broadband antennas suitable for multiple frequency ranges. Ideal for listeners who want to monitor various services.
  • Ground plane antennas: Efficiently tuned to specific frequency bands with excellent performance within VHF or UHF.
  • Vertical broadband antennas: Suitable for general scanner use with stable reception over a wide range.

Where to mount a base scanner antenna?

The performance of a base scanner antenna is strongly influenced by its mounting location.

  1. Place the antenna as high as possible: The higher the antenna, the better the range. Mounting on the roof or a mast (preferably 5–10 meters high) generally yields the best results.
  2. Avoid sources of interference: Keep a distance from solar panels, inverters, electrical installations, and other sources of electromagnetic interference.
  3. Use high-quality coaxial cable and connectors: To receive interference-free clear signals and to block interference sources as much as possible (see point 2), we recommend using high-quality low-loss coaxial cable with a protective jacket and well-conductive and mounted connectors.
  4. Ensure sturdy attachment: Use quality mast clamps and mounting materials to prevent damage from wind load.

How does a scanner antenna work?

A scanner antenna picks up radio waves from the air and transports them via a coaxial cable to your scanner.

  1. Signal reception: The antenna receives radio signals from various sources, depending on the frequency range you are listening to.
  2. Signal transmission: The signals are routed to your scanner via a coaxial cable. A high-quality coaxial cable is crucial to minimize signal loss.
  3. Signal processing: The scanner decodes the received signals, allowing you to clearly listen to the communication.

A well-tuned base scanner antenna ensures this process runs optimally.

What should you pay attention to when choosing a base scanner antenna?

When purchasing a scanner antenna, these are important considerations:

  • Frequency range (VHF, UHF, or broadband)
  • Gain and antenna type
  • Mounting height and available space
  • Coax quality and cable length
  • Connector (BNC, N-connector, PL-connector)
  • Weather resistance

In doubt? Preferably choose a broadband discone if you want to monitor multiple frequencies.

Invest in quality and performance

A base scanner antenna is an investment in range, reliability, and listening quality. By choosing an outdoor-mounted solution, you will demonstrably get better performance from your scanner.

Within our collection, you will find only original scanner antennas from top brands, carefully selected for durability and performance.

Do you want maximum reception without compromise? Then opt for a professional base scanner antenna and experience the difference immediately.
