The Firestik FG2-DD Series No Ground Antenna (NGP) CB Antenna kits are specifically designed to solve the lack of ground. This problem often occurs in vehicles made of plastic, fiberglass, wood or aluminum such as campers, boats, cars and trucks. Mass problems often exhibit high standing wave ratio (SWR) problems with poor performance. The FG2-DD series kits are designed for mounting on a flat horizontal surface. The ideal choice for camper roofs, the deck of a boat, the roof of a pick-up, camper or plastic (sports) car, or the roof of a fiberglass or aluminum tractor. The installed height above the roofline, including the length and antenna is just under 74 cm (29 in).

The Firestik antennas in these kits use the same 5/8 wave as the patented Firestik II adjustable top antennas. The antenna frequency is changed to maintain a desired position in conjunction with the tuned coaxial feed. The Firestik No Ground antennas can only be used with the Firestik NGP cable. The core material of this is a 3/8-inch (0.375 or 10 mm) diameter reinforced plastic (fiberglass). The special formula provides a preferred balance between flexibility and strength. The chrome-plated brass mounting plate has standard 3/8-24 threads. Heavy insulated copper wire is used to guard against short circuits and corrosion of the coils. The antenna included in this kit requires no tools due to the adjustable top that allows for quick and easy SWR adjustments. The rated maximum power of the antenna in this kit is 100 watts. Each antenna is covered in static heavy duty PVC heat shrink tubing containing both pigment and UV stabilizers. Available colors are black or white with a red tip or, red or blue with a white tip.

The 520 cm (17 Feet) coaxial cable used in these kits is of the highest quality.   First, we use a multi-wire stranded center conductor to prevent breakage that can occur with solid center conductor cable. A condition known as cold working occurs where vibration is present and this action can cause solid conductors to become brittle and eventually break. Surrounding the central conductor is long-lasting, flexible, polyethylene insulation. Since shielding is extremely critical on NGP systems, we have used a double shield around the center conductor. First, a 100% aluminum tape covers the central conductor insulator and a copper wire braid (average 95% coverage versus the standard of 70%) is applied over the aluminum tape. The coaxial feed line, in addition to being the line for the signal to reach the antenna, serves as a tuned circuit that creates the necessary counterbalance. If a longer length of cable is required, the user can add standard RG-58 A/U cable between the radio and cable system, preferably in lengths multiples of 9 feet. If the cable becomes damaged, order a replacement cable model K-8NGP.

And remember... ALL antennas, regardless of style or manufacturer, MUST be tuned after installation on the vehicle. Transmitting antennas are not plug-n-play devices.
