The Firestik KW3-SMK is a high-quality 27MHz antenna with a length of 90 cm (3 ft) and a 3-way mounting bracket. This versatile bracket allows mounting on both vertical and horizontal mirror arms, railings, or flat surfaces. The KW3-SMK is available in three colors: black, red, and white.
The set also includes a 5.5-meter (18 ft) high-quality Fire-Flex RG-58A/U coaxial cable, complete with two screw-on PL-259 connectors. As an added bonus, the kit comes with a free stainless steel spring and a microphone holder.
Trim-to-Tune Antenna
Precise Tuning for Optimal Performance The Firestik KW series is the original Firestik CB antenna, dating back to 1975, even before the tunable tip (antenna top) was invented. Despite the advent of easy-to-tune models, the Firestik KW series remains popular.
Tuning a Trim-to-Tune antenna:
- Remove the cap.
- Make vertical cuts in the tubing at the top of the antenna with a knife (about 1 - 1.5 cm long).
- Fold open the tubing to expose the wire coil.
- Trim a small piece from the end of the wire and push it back into place.
- Replace the cap and measure the SWR value.
- Repeat the process until the antenna is properly tuned.
Important Advice from Firestik
1. Requires a metal ground plane:
The Firestik KW3-SMK is a ground-plane dependent antenna and requires a metal ground to function properly. Not suitable for vehicles with composite materials or insufficient metal. It can be used as a base antenna if a ground plane is created.
2. Correct mounting for a good signal:
Mounting brackets and antenna connectors must be well-grounded to the chassis. Powder coating, paint, or anodized surfaces can be insulating and must be removed down to bare metal at the grounding point.
Important:
All antennas, regardless of brand or type, must be tuned after installation. CB antennas are not plug-and-play devices, and a wrongly tuned antenna can damage your radio's transmitter.
