Please note: this antenna only works with a metal ground (mass)
The KW6 is ground-dependent and only performs optimally when mounted on a metal surface that functions as a ground. Think of a metal vehicle or mast – plastic or non-metal surfaces are not suitable. If you use the antenna in combination with a transmitter, correct tuning is crucial. An untuned antenna can cause damage to your transmission equipment.
Optimal Ground with Firestik Stud Mount
Are you using a Firestik Stud Mount? Then you are assured of a solid, conductive connection. Please note with powder-coated, painted, or anodized surfaces: these insulating coatings must be removed at the mounting point to ensure good contact with the metal.
Tuning with the Proven Trim-to-Tune System
The Firestik KW series has existed since 1975 – even before the adjustable top. What started as 'old-fashioned' has grown, due to its reliability and performance, into a classic that is still popular today. The Trim-to-Tune system gives you complete control over the tuning.
How to Tune the KW6 Antenna:
- Remove the cap.
- Make vertical slits in the top of the antenna (1–1.5 cm) with a knife.
- Slightly open the fiberglass to expose the wire core.
- Cut a small piece of the wire and push it back.
- Replace the cap and measure the SWR again.
- Repeat if necessary until you have achieved optimal SWR.
