K-PO DX-5000 VFO 10M and 12M transceiver

The K-PO DX-5000 VFO is the newest version in the well-known DX-5000 series and is based on the PLUS V8.0 platform. The big difference is in the name: this version features a true VFO mode. When transmitting, always take into account the frequencies, power levels, and conditions of use permitted for your license and location.

What is VFO and what can you do with it?

VFO stands for Variable Frequency Oscillator. Simply put, the VFO gives you the ability to move directly through frequencies instead of only jumping from one programmed channel to another.

In a traditional channel mode, you select, for example, channel 1, 2, or 3, where each channel is pre-linked to a specific frequency. With the VFO of this K-PO, you can set the frequency much more directly.

The available frequency steps are 10 Hz, 100 Hz, 1 kHz, 5 kHz, and 10 kHz. This gives you significantly more control when you want to tune precisely to a specific frequency.

The K-PO DX-5000 VFO supports AM, FM, SSB, and CW. The specified maximum transmit power is 12 watts on AM/CW and up to 40 watts on FM and SSB.

This gives you one radio with various modulation possibilities. Functions such as Dual Watch, scan, TOT, Clarifier, +10 kHz, CTCSS and DCS codes, and memory channels are also included.

The included dynamic microphone also features UP/DOWN frequency control and AQ control.

Programming the DX5000 via computer

Do you want to further tailor the radio to your usage? The K-PO DX-5000 VFO can be programmed via software. The connection for the programming cable is located at the rear of the radio. The required programming cable is available optionally.

Using the software, you can program frequency range limits, frequency channels, Mic Gain limits, CW sidetone frequency and volume, and various other settings. The software also includes a factory reset function.

Modification and use on 11M

The standard specified frequency for this version is 28.000 to 29.700 MHz. According to product specifications, a range of 24.715 to 30.105 MHz is possible for the export version after modification/programming.

As a result, the radio can technically cover frequencies within the 11M band as well. However, the capabilities of the radio and the legal permission to transmit on a certain frequency, modulation type, or power level are two different things. Therefore, always check which rules apply to your application.

For users who are specifically interested in modification or programming, it is also important to determine in advance which configuration is desired.

Extensive connection and setting options

At the rear, you will find connections for an external speaker, external S-meter, and PA. An SO-239 UHF connector is used for the antenna. The microphone connection is 4-pin.

The radio also has SWR protection and power supply voltage protection. The supply voltage is 13.8 volts.
