Komunica HF-PRO 2 HF Mobile antenna
-
The HF-PRO-2® can be operated on a wide frequency range of 7-30 and 50MHz. This antenna is to be used for “Static mobile” or portable operation, never when you are mobile as mechanically the antenna has not been designed for use on moving vehicles. It is the owner's responsibility to use this antenna only in an appropriate and responsible manner.
-
The operational frequency is easily adjusted by moving the loading coil up or down as required and by using an antenna tuning unit if one is connected.
- When operating on 50MHz, please ensure that the short top element (PWR01003) is installed above the lower element (PWR01001) and that the coil is slid down to its lowest point (ie fully retracted).
- Thanks to the fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) material with which Komunica® has manufactured its HF-PRO-2®, the antenna is both lightweight & flexible and is small when packed away making it easy to carry when not in use.
Notes for Using the Antenna
- To use your HF-PRO-2® from Komunica® antenna correctly, please read these instructions thoroughly before use and keep this document on-hand for later reference. The HF-PRO-2® from Komunica® is intended for use by Radio Amateurs only within their authorized frequency bands. For use on some amateur bands an antenna tuning unit may be required.
Please note:
The HF-PRO-2® from Komunica® offers versatile operation over a wide frequency range of 7-30 and 50MHz. This antenna is specifically designed for "static mobile" or portable applications, and should never be used while moving the vehicle, as the antenna is not mechanically designed for use on moving vehicles. It is the responsibility of the owner to use this antenna only in an appropriate and responsible manner.
The operating frequency can be easily adjusted by moving the charging coil up or down as necessary, and by using an antenna tuning unit if one is connected.
When operating at 50MHz, ensure that the short upper element (PWR01003) is installed above the lower element (PWR01001) and that the coil is slid down to the lowest point (fully retracted).
Thanks to the fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) material with which Komunica® has manufactured the HF-PRO-2®, the antenna is both lightweight and flexible, and compact when packed, making it easy to carry when not in use.
Notes for using the antenna:
To correctly use the HF-PRO-2® from Komunica®, read these instructions thoroughly before use and keep this document for future reference. The HF-PRO-2® from Komunica® is intended solely for use by radio amateurs within their authorized frequency bands. For use on some amateur bands an antenna tuning unit may be required.
NB:
- The komunica HF-PRO-2® is designed as a stationary antenna and is not suitable for use on moving or driving vehicles.
- We recommend installing this antenna on a stationary vehicle on a mounting that is grounded, or on a magnetic antenna base, after you have parked the vehicle.
- The HF-PRO-2® should not be permanently installed as a home station antenna as it is not designed to withstand rain and wind.
- Do not touch the antenna during transmission, as this may cause electric shock and/or RF burn.
- Use caution when mounting or disconnecting the antenna to avoid personal injury from the antenna.
- For optimal performance of the HF-PRO-2®, the use of an antenna tuning unit (ATU) is recommended.
Adjusting the HF-Pro 2
Connect your HF-PRO-2 with a magnetic base or SO-239 connection to a mounting bracket with a good connection to the chassis (ground) of your vehicle. Install the appropriate radiating elements on the antenna body (short top section for 6 meter use, long top section for HF bands). To select the correct frequency, you need to adjust the position of the scale on the antenna body so that it corresponds to the value shown in the graph on the right. Loosen the locknut by half a turn by hand. Slide the antenna body to the desired scale mark for your frequency and tighten the locknut by hand another half turn. It is important for both electrical connectivity and stability that the locknut is retightened. (Do not use tools such as pliers as the antenna may be damaged). When fine tuning, always perform your TX tests with the RF power set as low as possible. Move the coil up or down until the lowest VSWR is reached at the desired frequency. Once the coordination is in order, you increase the capital to your business assets. (Maximum Power: 130W - SSB). When adjusting for the 50MHz band, lower the load coil to the bottom, remove the large upper element (PWR01002) if installed, and replace it with the short element (PWR01003).
Recommendations
When transmitting, using an antenna tuner will simplify operation.
Due to the broadband design, the radiation efficiency of the antenna may be reduced in some cases. Although the HF-PRO-2® is manufactured under strict quality control, if any damage occurs during shipping, contact your dealer immediately.
Do not use this antenna if it is damaged.
Coil position diagram
The table found in the manual or online describes the settings for the antenna when mounted on a magnetic bracket in the center of a vehicle's metal roof. These values may differ if the antenna is mounted elsewhere on the vehicle or if it is used outside the vehicle without the metal roof acting as a ground plane (for example, on a balcony rail or mounted on a tripod). It is recommended that after installation you test the effectiveness of your mounting points as a ground plane using an antenna analyzer or an SWR bridge and low power from your transmitter. If you receive an SWR value greater than 2:1, you will need to investigate an alternative mounting location or use an antenna tuner to obtain a better match with the HF-PRO-2®.
Installation options:
- Install the HF-PRO-2® onto a SO-239 socket mount, where there is a good ground plane such as with a magnetic base mount in the center of the vehicle's roof, using a trunk or bonnet-lip mount or luggage or bull -bar rail. Remember the mounting point needs to provide an effective ground plane for the antenna to work against. If no other option is available, feeding the antenna with 10 or more meters of co-Axial cable may work with the coax-screen acting as the counterpoise.
- Your HF-PRO-2® may also be mounted on a metal railing such as on a balcony. In such a case an L-shaped bracket will need to be fabricated that is both strong enough to support the antenna and provide an electrical connection to the rail for the antenna.
- You may choose to use an antenna tuner together with the HF-PRO-2® for maximum flexibility.
