No power from the wall socket? With the Midland ER100 emergency radio you have several options to still have radio, light and a limited amount of emergency power at hand. This compact emergency radio combines an AM/FM radio with a 2600 mAh Li-ion battery, hand crank dynamo, solar panel, LED lamp and USB power bank function.
The ER100 is therefore a practical addition to an emergency kit for home, but also suitable for camping, hiking, traveling and other outdoor activities. You can normally charge the internal battery via USB, but when mains power is not available, you can generate energy yourself with the hand crank or use the integrated solar panel.
What is the Midland ER100 emergency radio?
The Midland ER100 is a portable emergency radio and power bank that was developed for situations in which a normal power supply is not readily available.
You receive both AM and FM radio, so you can listen to available radio broadcasts. The ER100 also has a built-in LED flashlight, SOS light signal, digital clock and 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The main difference with a regular portable radio, however, lies in the power supply. The built-in 2600 mAh battery can be charged in three ways: via USB, solar or the hand crank dynamo.
Hand crank radio: generate power yourself with the hand crank
On the back of the ER100 is a pull-out hand crank. By turning it, you drive the built-in dynamo and charge the Li-ion battery. This means you can manually generate energy when you do not have a working wall socket or other USB power source at your disposal.
According to Midland, one minute of turning the hand crank provides approximately 9 minutes of use time for the ER100. The actual amount of generated energy depends on how fast and how long you turn the dynamo. The hand crank is therefore mainly intended as a practical backup for emergency situations and not as a replacement for normal charging via USB.
Emergency radio with solar panel
In addition to the dynamo, the Midland ER100 has an integrated solar panel. Position the radio so that the solar panel receives direct sunlight and the internal battery is charged. Under optimal conditions, according to Midland, one hour of direct sunlight can provide approximately 30 minutes of use time.
Here too, solar charging should mainly be seen as a supplementary power supply. The actual yield depends on, among other things, the amount and intensity of the sunlight. Together, USB, the solar panel and the dynamo give you three different options to charge the internal battery.
2600 mAh power bank for USB devices
The Midland ER100 is not only a radio, but also a compact emergency power bank. On the side you will find both a USB input and USB output. Via USB IN you charge the internal 2600 mAh Li-ion battery. With USB OUT, the stored energy can be used to power suitable USB devices, such as a mobile phone.
Midland explicitly positions this function as an emergency supply. According to the manual, a fully charged ER100 can, for example, be used to give an empty mobile phone enough energy to make at least one emergency call.
Therefore, do not see the ER100 as a replacement for a large everyday power bank. The strength lies precisely in the combination of radio, power bank, solar charging and hand crank in one compact device.
AM/FM radio for information on the go
The built-in radio receives AM from 531–1629 kHz and FM from 87.5–108 MHz. With the BAND button you switch between both frequency bands and with the TUNE buttons you tune to the desired station. For better FM reception, the ER100 has a rotatable telescopic antenna. Pull it out completely and turn the antenna until you have the clearest possible reception.
The LCD display shows, among other things, the set frequency and battery status. The backlight can be set to stay on or off permanently, or set so that it lights up for five seconds after pressing a button.
Built-in LED lamp with SOS signal
During a power outage, information is not the only thing that is important; a reliable lamp also comes in handy. That is why Midland has integrated a Cree LED flashlight in the ER100. The lamp has two light modes: Dim and Bright. This allows you to choose between a lower or higher light intensity depending on the situation.
In addition, the lamp has an SOS Morse Code Flashlight Beacon. After activation, the lamp flashes the international SOS pattern: three short, three long, and again three short light signals. This allows the ER100 to combine lighting and visual signaling in the same compact device.
Compact for emergency kit, camping and outdoor
With dimensions of approximately 150 × 79 × 43 mm , the Midland ER100 takes up relatively little space. This makes it easy to store in an emergency kit or take with you during a trip, walk, or camping trip. The operating temperature ranges from -20 °C to +55 °C, making the radio designed for a variety of conditions.
Do you want to listen to the radio individually? Then you can connect headphones or earphones with a 3.5 mm stereo jack .
Why choose the Midland ER100?
The strength of this emergency radio lies mainly in the combination of functions:
- Three charging options: USB, solar panel and hand crank dynamo
- Radio and information: AM/FM radio with telescopic antenna and LCD display
- Emergency power bank: 2600 mAh Li-ion battery with USB output
- Lighting: Cree LED lamp with two light modes and SOS Morse function
- Portable: compact format for emergency kit, camping, hiking and traveling
One compact device for radio, light and emergency power
A power outage or other unexpected situation is not the time you want to discover that all your devices depend on the same wall socket. The Midland ER100 emergency radio gives you several alternatives in one compact device.
Listen to AM/FM radio, use the LED lamp in the dark, charge a USB device in case of emergency, or generate energy yourself with the hand crank and dynamo. If there is enough direct sunlight, the integrated solar panel offers another way to recharge the internal battery.
Are you looking for a compact hand crank emergency radio with solar and power bank for home or on the go? Add the Midland ER100 to your emergency equipment and make sure you have radio, light and an extra power option within reach.
