Midland MA31-LK Double PTT headset – acoustic earpiece with microphone

Are you looking for a discreet Midland headset that allows you to quickly switch between two communication channels? The Midland MA31-LK Double PTT is a professional radio headset with an acoustic tube, clip-on microphone, and dual PTT controls, designed for use with the Midland CT990 EBR.

Thanks to the transparent pneumatic earpiece, you receive calls discreetly via an acoustic sound tube. The compact clip-on microphone and Double PTT switch allow you to communicate quickly without having to hold the radio every time.

The combination of a discreet design, comfortable silicone earbud, and direct controls makes the MA31-LK particularly suitable for security, events, surveillance, and other situations where clear and discreet communication is important.

What is the Midland MA31-LK Double PTT?

The Midland MA31-LK is a wired radio headset with a transparent acoustic tube, a clip-on microphone, and a dual Push-to-Talk switch.

Sound is delivered to the ear via a small audio transducer and an acoustic sound tube. This keeps the earpiece relatively discreet and allows you to receive calls without using the radio's built-in speaker.

• The microphone can be attached to suitable clothing, keeping it in a practical position while speaking.
• The headset also features a 2-pin angled Kenwood Type-K connector and was specifically developed to support the Double PTT functionality of the Midland CT990 EBR.

Discreet radio earpiece with acoustic tube

An important feature of the Midland MA31-LK is the transparent acoustic tube. This design is commonly used for radio headsets in security and other applications where a conspicuous headset is less desirable.

Sound is delivered through the transparent tube to the silicone earbud. The audio transducer is located outside the ear. This allows the MA31-LK to combine a discreet appearance with direct sound delivery at the ear. The silicone earbud is designed for comfortable use, even when wearing the headset for extended periods.

Double PTT: operate two channels from the headset

The Double PTT function is the main technical difference between the Midland MA31-LK and a standard radio earpiece. A standard headset usually uses a single PTT button to activate the radio's transmitter. The MA31-LK features a dual PTT switch that, in combination with the Midland CT990 EBR, allows you to choose directly which of two preset channels you want to transmit on.

This is practical when, for example, you need to maintain contact with a security team while also communicating with a second group of personnel. You can quickly switch between both transmission options without having to manually change the channel on the radio first.

The Double PTT function depends on support from the connected radio and does not mean that you transmit on two frequencies simultaneously.

Clip-on microphone for practical operation

The Midland MA31-LK features a clip-on microphone that can be attached to clothing or other suitable equipment. This allows you to position the microphone close to your mouth and eliminates the need to lift the radio every time you want to speak.

The dual PTT switch is located in the cable and is positioned separately from the microphone. The PTT switch does not have its own mounting clip. Keep this in mind when wearing the headset under or along your clothing. The combination of a clip-on microphone, acoustic earpiece, and Double PTT makes the MA31-LK practical for tasks where you need to communicate regularly while keeping your hands free.

Suitable for security, events, and team coordination

The Midland MA31-LK is particularly appealing to users who need discreet and direct radio communication. This includes security personnel, event teams, surveillance staff, or employees who need to maintain contact with different communication groups while working.

The transparent earpiece is less conspicuous than a traditional headset with a larger ear cup. At the same time, the acoustic tube ensures that calls are delivered directly to the ear. This can also be practical in noisy environments, as you do not need to listen to the received radio signal through an external speaker. Overall intelligibility still depends on ambient noise, radio range, and radio settings.

Kenwood Type-K connection for Midland CT990 EBR

The Midland MA31-LK features a 2-pin angled connector with Kenwood Type-K wiring. This connection is used with several radios. However, a compatible connector does not automatically mean that all headset functions will work on every radio.

The Double PTT functionality requires specific support from the radio. Midland specifies the MA31-LK for use with the Midland CT990 EBR. Therefore, always check the exact model of your radio and the supported PTT functions before ordering. It cannot be guaranteed that both PTT buttons will function correctly with other radios featuring a Type-K connection.

Comfortable and discreet during extended use

Radio headsets are often worn for extended periods during professional work. The Midland MA31-LK therefore combines a compact design with a silicone earbud and a flexible acoustic tube. The transparent sound tube can be worn discreetly along the ear, while the black cable can easily be routed along clothing or equipment.

Thanks to the compact earpiece, the headset remains relatively discreet without compromising direct access to received radio communications. This makes the MA31-LK a practical choice for users who want to combine comfort and discretion.
