Midland XT50 Adventure – PMR446 walkie-talkie set for outdoor use and camping

Heading out together and want to stay in touch even without a mobile network? The Midland XT50 Adventure is a complete PMR446 walkie-talkie set for outdoor activities, hiking, camping, and other situations where direct communication is practical. The set consists of two Midland XT50 radios and comes in a sturdy storage case, including two Midland MA21-L headsets.

The XT50 Adventure offers the same user-friendly radios as the standard Midland XT50 set, but stands out with its more extensive equipment. The case allows you to keep the radios, charger, and accessories neatly together and easily carry them with you.

With a transmission power of 500 mW ERP, a stated range of up to 8 kilometres under optimal conditions, VOX, a scan function, and 38 CTCSS tones, the XT50 offers a wealth of functionality in a compact format.

What is the Midland XT50 Adventure?

The Midland XT50 Adventure is a set of two compact PMR446 radios for short- to medium-range wireless communication.

PMR446 is designed for direct communication between radios. You do not need a mobile phone network, Wi-Fi, or internet connection. This makes a walkie-talkie practical when you are out with several people, for example during a walk, at a campsite, or during an outdoor activity.

The Adventure version comes complete with, among other things, two rechargeable battery packs, a dual desktop charger, two belt clips, and two Midland MA21-L headsets. Everything can be stored neatly in the included case.

PMR446 walkie-talkies for outdoor use and hiking

During hiking, camping, and outdoor activities, mobile coverage is not always guaranteed. With the Midland XT50, you communicate directly from radio to radio.

The set features 8 PMR446 channels plus 16 preprogrammed channels and 38 CTCSS tones. CTCSS allows you to filter out unwanted conversations from other users on the same channel from the speaker.

It is important to know that CTCSS does not provide encryption or a secure private connection. Other PMR446 users can still receive the same frequency.

Range of up to 8 kilometres under optimal conditions

Midland states a maximum range of up to 8 kilometres for the XT50. This maximum range applies under favourable conditions, for example in an open area with few obstacles. In built-up areas, forests, hilly terrain, and buildings, the practical range can be considerably lower. Trees, walls, changes in elevation, and other obstacles affect radio signals.

For outdoor use, it is therefore better to view 8 kilometres as the theoretical maximum range under optimal conditions rather than as a guaranteed communication distance.

Also useful as a backup for emergency communication

Because the XT50 communicates directly with another PMR446 radio, the set can also be a practical addition to your emergency communication equipment.

When mobile communication is temporarily unavailable, two people with compatible PMR446 radios can still communicate directly with each other as long as they are within each other's radio range. This can make a walkie-talkie set useful for families, groups of travellers, and outdoor enthusiasts who want an independent communication option in addition to their smartphone. Of course, a radio does not replace professional emergency communication and does not provide a connection to emergency services on its own.

VOX for hands-free communication

During a walk or other activity, you may sometimes want to keep your hands free. The Midland XT50 therefore features a VOX function with three adjustable levels.

With VOX, the radio can automatically detect speech and activate the transmitter without you having to press the PTT button manually every time.

The Adventure set also includes two Midland MA21-L headsets. This makes the set immediately complete for situations in which you want to hear the communication closer to your ear and are carrying the radio on your clothing or equipment, for example.

Scan, CALL, and clear LCD display

The XT50 features a SCAN function that can search available channels for radio traffic. This can be useful when you want to check which channel is being used for communication. The CALL function allows you to send a call signal to the other radio. The illuminated alphanumeric LCD display clearly shows important settings, even when ambient light is less favourable.

Each XT50 also features a 2-pin Midland MIC/SPK accessory jack for compatible headsets and accessories. Rechargeable and also usable with AAA batteries The Midland XT50 Adventure comes with two rechargeable 700 mAh battery packs and a dual desktop charger. This allows you to charge both radios together and then take them with you again.

The radios also feature a Micro-USB jack and, according to the provided specifications, can also be used with 3 AAA batteries per radio. The stated operating time is approximately 12 hours, depending on use.

Compact walkie-talkie for camping and travel

Measuring just 54 × 103 × 33 mm, the XT50 is compact enough to be easily carried. The radio can be attached to clothing or equipment with the included belt clip. The stated operating temperature ranges from -20 °C to +55 °C. This means the set has been developed for use in a variety of conditions.

Whether you are looking for a walkie-talkie for camping, a compact PMR446 set for a walk, or an additional communication device for on the go, the XT50 Adventure combines easy operation with the most important radio functions.
