The most obvious new designation of the Tecsun S-8800 is the infrared remote control. Because Tecsun has incorporated infrared control into this model, you can place the Tecsun S-8800 in a good position for optimal reception, and you can easily operate the S-8800 world receiver with the remote control (including frequency, display (switch between frequency and time), memory (store or recall frequencies), tuning, VF/VM modes, scan, mode (AM, FM (mono or stereo), USB or LSB), bands (AM, FM or shortwave, 9/10kHz setting for MW, AM bandwidth), and a keypad to allow direct access to frequencies).

Listening time thanks to Lithium-ion batteries

Tecsun has utilised recent developments in lithium-ion batteries in the S-8800, using 18650 cells in this world-class receiver to significantly increase listening time.

Performance and tires on the Tecsun S-8800

The Tecsun S-8800 isn't limited to AM reception; it also offers excellent performance on FM and Shortwave (SW) bands, including Single Side Band (SSB). The Tecsun S-8800 can be connected to an external antenna to enhance performance on AM, FM, and shortwave bands.

New features on the Tecsun S-8800

Numerous new features have been added to the Tecsun S-8800, including those found on most Tecsun world receivers, such as a clock, timer, snooze, and alarms. A total of 650 stations can be stored in memory across all bands (limits apply to each band) and recalled in real time or at a specific time in the future. The usual memory storage, recall, and clear functions are also available, with simultaneous automatic clearing useful for removing duplicate frequencies.

The Tecsun S-8800 offers frequency surfing, similar to the ETM function found on small portable world receivers like the Tecsun PL-310ET and Tecsun PL-365, as well as semi-automatic storage (the receiver stops when a signal is found, giving you four seconds to save it). The Tecsun S-8800 also features ATS (Auto Tuning Storage), which allows the receiver to store each signal. These actions are easily performed using the included remote control.

DX / Local switch

To prevent signal overload, the receiver has the “DX/Local” switch.

Just like all things computer-controlled world receivers sometimes get confused, there's a reset switch hidden under the main knob to protect this. Pulling the knob out reveals it. You'll need a small, pointed tool (e.g., a paperclip) to do this.
