Quick and easy to install
This antenna radiator can be installed in just a few steps. Simply remove the existing antenna, attach the short load, and adjust it with an SWR test if necessary. Note: Only the top antenna may be shortened.
Note: The top antenna is intentionally longer than necessary for channels 1-40. Shorten the top antenna gradually, checking the SER between each shortening, until you achieve the lowest possible SWR. The bottom antenna should never be shortened.
Easy to adjust and install
- Loosen the set screws in the chrome tube of the antenna and remove the existing antenna boom.
- Remove the vinyl cap from the bottom section (this section is 28cm long) of the short load.
- Place this bottom section in the mast.
- Perform an SWR test to determine the value.
- If adjustment is necessary, remove the vinyl cap from the top section (this section is 66cm long) of the short load.
- Trim the top strand a small piece at a time until you achieve the lowest possible SWR, using special scissors, pliers, or a hacksaw.
- When finished, replace the top vinyl cap.
NB:
- Never cut the bottom portion of the antenna boom – adjustment is always done at the top.
- The top boom has been deliberately made longer than necessary for use on channel 1-40, and must be trimmed to length.
- The Short Load is supplied without a magnetic base.
