Common problems and solutions when using the BHI desktop MKII
The BHI Desktop MKII is a powerful noise-canceling speaker, but sometimes problems can occur. These can include little or no sound, unwanted noise, or a speaker that doesn't function properly in DSP mode. Below are the most important considerations and troubleshooting tips.
Little or no sound:
- Check the input signal: Make sure the source volume is not too high to avoid clipping and distortion.
- Check the connections: Check that all cables and connectors are properly connected.
- Volume settings: Increase the volume on both the audio source and the desktop MKII. Make sure the source volume isn't set too high to avoid clipping.
- Use the correct input: Preferably use the 3.5 mm mono or stereo plug on the line input, instead of the red/black speaker terminals.
Noise or interference:
- Filter settings: Check that the filter is turned on (LED should be green or orange) and adjust the filter strength.
- Use ferrite cores: If you experience interference, try using ferrite cores on the audio cable or place the speaker further away from other devices.
- Grounding: Ensure your installation is properly grounded to minimise noise.
- Power supply noise: Some switching power supplies can produce noise. Try a different power supply if necessary.
Speaker not working in DSP mode:
- Check the power: Does the power LED turn on?
- DSP Switch: Make sure the speaker is actually set to "DSP" and not "Off" (which will bypass DSP).
General tips:
- Audio Presets: Disable any sound enhancements in your operating system.
- Default Device: Make sure the correct audio output is set as the default.
- Windows Updates: Make sure your system is fully updated.
- Windows Troubleshooter: Run the built-in audio troubleshooter to analyze your audio.
Explanation:
"Clipping" occurs when the audio signal is too strong for the device to process correctly. The sound then becomes distorted, often with audible crackling or tearing. In Dutch, this is commonly referred to as signal overdrive, or simply overload.
