Manual: Tuning the Wilson "Little Wil" Antenna

Important notes before adjusting the antenna:
It is important that the doors of the car, truck or tractor are closed when performing SWR measurements.

The vehicle must be at least 9 meters (30 ft.) away from any metal, wiring, or buildings.

To optimally configure your antenna for the best range, follow the steps below:

    1. Remove Little Wil from the box.
    2. Remove the large flat metal ring (This is only used to hold the antenna in place during transport and storage).
    3. Insert the whip into the chrome adjustable holder on the magnetic base until it touches the bottom. (The whip is generally longer than necessary for use on channels 1-40.)
    4. To connect the SWR meter, connect it between the antenna connection of the 27MC CB radio and the connector on the Wilson "Little Wil".
    5. Check the SWR on both channel 1 and channel 40. If the SWR on channel 1 is lower than on channel 40, trim 0.6 cm (6 mm or 1/4") off the top of the boom and recheck the SWR. Repeat this step until the SWR on channel 1 and 40 are approximately the same. Note: If the SWR is higher on channel 1 and lower on channel 40, pull the boom up 0.6 cm (6 mm or 1/4-inch) and recheck the SWR. Repeat this until the SWR on channel 1 and 40 are approximately the same.

    Important notes
It is important that the doors of the car, truck or tractor are closed when performing SWR measurements.

The vehicle must be at least 9 meters (30 ft.) away from any metal, wiring, or buildings.

    Removing the antenna
To remove the "Little Wil" from the vehicle, grasp the coil and tilt the antenna toward you. The antenna can now be easily lifted up.

CAUTION: Do not slide the magnetic antenna across the surface, as this may scratch the car's paint.
