A metal mass is required for proper operation
The KW5 only works on metal surfaces that act as ground , such as a steel vehicle or transmission tower. It is not suitable for use on plastic or other non-conductive surfaces. When using it with a transmitter, it is essential to correctly tune the antenna to the frequency to prevent damage to your transmission circuit.
Perfect ground with a Firestik Stud Mount
Mount the antenna with a Firestik Stud Mount for a solid steel connection. Note: For powder-coated, painted, or anodized surfaces, the coating must be removed down to the bare metal to ensure proper conductivity.
Trim-to-Tune tuning: maximum control, minimum effort
The Firestik KW series has been around since 1975 – long before the advent of adjustable tips. The Trim-to-Tune method is still valued today for its precision and simplicity. It allows you to tune for low SWR and maximum transmission quality.
Adjust in 6 easy steps:
- Remove the top cap.
- Make vertical slits in the top of the stick (approx. 1–1.5 cm).
- Unfold the fiberglass slightly and expose the wire core.
- Cut a small piece of the wire.
- Push the wire back, replace the top cap.
- Measure the SWR and repeat if necessary until it is optimal.
