Please note: this antenna only works with a metal base (ground)
The KW6 is surface-dependent and performs optimally only when mounted on a metal surface that acts as a ground. Think of a metal vehicle or transmission tower – plastic or non-metallic surfaces are not suitable. If you use the antenna in combination with a transmitter, correct tuning is crucial. An untuned antenna can damage your transmitting equipment.
Optimal mass with Firestik Stud Mount
Using a Firestik Stud Mount ensures a solid, conductive connection. Be careful with powder-coated, painted, or anodized surfaces: these insulating coatings must be removed at the mounting point to ensure good contact with the metal.
Adjust with the proven Trim-to-Tune system
The Firestik KW series has been around since 1975 – even before the adjustable top. What started as an "old-fashioned" model has become a classic thanks to its reliability and performance, and remains popular today. The Trim-to-Tune system gives you complete control over the tuning.
How to adjust the KW6 antenna:
- Remove the cap.
- Using a knife, make vertical slits in the top of the antenna (1–1.5 cm).
- Unfold the fiberglass slightly to expose the wire core.
- Cut a small piece of the wire and push it back.
- Replace the cap and measure the SWR again.
- Repeat as necessary until you achieve optimal SWR.
