Connector on the bottom part of the IMAX2000:
When measuring with a multimeter on the UHF Female (SO239) between the conductor and ground, a short circuit will be detected. This is due to the special design of the MAX2000, which differs from most conventional antennas. This applies whether checking just the bottom section or all installed sections.
Middle section of IMAX2000:
When measuring with a multimeter between the top and bottom of the center section, NO continuity will be displayed. This is due to the capacitor in the center section, which is necessary to create a 5/8-wave antenna. Note: The Max2000 has a capacitor in the center section because it is a 5/8-wave antenna, while the A99 does not have a capacitor in the center section because it is a 1/2-wave antenna.
January 2020: Solarcon (I)MAX2000:
About 24 years ago, Solarcon introduced the iMAX2000. But after a very short time, the name changed to MAX2000. The film company IMAX demanded that Solarcon change the name.
UPS recently changed its maximum package size regulations and is starting to enforce them rigorously. The Max2000 box was slightly too large. The antenna was shortened by about 3 cm to fit into the slightly smaller box. This minor modification to the outer sections does not affect the antenna's performance or SWR. The Solarcon Max2000 is manufactured in the USA.
