When do you need an external antenna for Blu Eye GO?
According to Track Technologies, the standard antenna of the Blu Eye GO, when correctly placed for a normal windshield, offers comparable reception quality to this external antenna. An external antenna is therefore not necessary for every installation.
The difference becomes particularly important when you want to place the Blu Eye GO out of sight, for example, in a car console. The housing and position in the interior can affect reception. With the external antenna, you can place the antenna in a more favorable position without the Blu Eye GO itself needing to be near the windshield.
This solution is also recommended for cars with a heated or coated windshield. Such windshields can affect signal reception. In that case, the antenna should be placed on the outside of the vehicle. Why is a right-angle SMB adapter included?
A right-angle SMB adapter is included with this external antenna. This has a practical reason. SMA and SMB connectors have a limited number of mating cycles; the supplied product specifications mention approximately 1,000 times.
It is therefore intended that the right-angle adapter remains connected to the Blu Eye GO. If you want to disconnect the antenna, you disconnect it from the adapter instead of directly from the device each time.
This reduces the strain on the Blu Eye GO's connection. If the connector wears out after frequent use, the separate right-angle adapter can be replaced more easily.
