Keys and connections on the Huminication HM365 marine radio explained

Programming the Himunication HM365: MMSI, ATIS and settings easily explained

Have you purchased a Himunication HM365 marine radio and want to prepare it for use? There are some important settings you need to check and program before you go on the water. Fortunately, this process is simple if you have the correct data from your marine radio license at hand.

What data do you need for the Himunication HM365?

For using the HM365, you typically need the following data:

  • Call Sign
  • MMSI number
  • ATIS number
  • International channel setting (INT)

You receive this data from the Radiocommunications Agency Netherlands (RDI) when you apply for a marine radio license.

Programming the MMSI number

The MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) number is a unique 9-digit identification number used for DSC (Digital Selective Calling) emergency calls. Always check this number carefully before confirming it. On most marine radios, including the Himunication HM365, an MMSI number can only be entered definitively once.

You can easily enter your MMSI number via the DSC Operation menu. After confirmation, this number is normally locked. An example of an MMSI number is: 244123456.

Setting the ATIS number for inland waterways

If you are sailing on Dutch inland waterways, a valid ATIS number is mandatory. Without an active ATIS function, you are not allowed to transmit on most inland waterways in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

You enter the ATIS number via the ATIS Operation menu. Then, you activate the ATIS function so that every transmission is automatically provided with your unique identification code. On modern licenses from the RDI, the ATIS number is usually already stated, so you don't have to calculate it yourself.

Setting the channel plan

For use in the Netherlands, the Himunication HM365 must be set to the international channel plan (INT). This gives you access to the standard marine radio channels used in European inland shipping and coastal waters.

Activating the DSC function

The HM365 has DSC functionality that allows you to quickly send distress, safety, and routine calls. Ensure that the DSC function is enabled and that the MMSI number is correctly programmed.

When you connect the HM365 to an external GPS source, your position can be automatically sent with a DSC distress call. This significantly increases safety on board.

Also see the detailed English manual with images above, under the 'manual' tab.

Important to know

Always check all data carefully before saving it definitively. Changing an MMSI or ATIS number afterwards requires a special programming cable and software, or you can send the device to us to have it changed.

Therefore, first get your marine radio license and copy the data directly. This way you prevent errors and you can be sure that your Himunication HM365 is correctly configured for safe and legal use on the water.

Available accessories

  • Huminication programming cable with PS/2 connection (6-pin Mini-DIN connector). With this cable, you can change an incorrectly entered MMSI and/or ATIS number. The corresponding software will be sent to you via a WeTransfer link after purchase.

Order your Himunication HM365 today and go on the water well-prepared and safely.
